Eyre Peninsula Visitor Guide : 2018-2019 Eyre Peninsula Visitor Guide
eyrepeninsula.com | Coffin Bay 46 COFFIN BAY 43 kilometres from Port Lincoln map reference Q8 Situated on the western tip of Lower Eyre Peninsula, Coffin Bay is surrounded by sea and national parks. It is famous for fantastic seafood, and visitors will find a good range of accommodation from luxury holiday homes to caravan parks and camping in Coffin Bay National Park. Named after Sir Isaac Coffin, a friend of explorer Matthew Flinders, Coffin Bay is famous for its oysters and fishing and is home to one of the most stunning estuaries in Australia. POINTS OF INTEREST The pristine, calm waters, part of the Thorny Passage Marine Park, are perfect for sailing, swimming, kayaking, waterskiing and scuba diving; while its meandering waterways, bays, channels and inlets are ideal for rock, surf and jetty fishing, or take a charter offshore to target the mighty Southern Bluefin tuna, kingfish and other marine species. Visit Coffin Bay National Park, with sealed roads to places like Point Avoid, Almonta Beach and Yangie Bay campground. For the experienced 4WD enthusiast there is a track across the sand dunes to Gunyah Beach or, for the more adventurous, a trip to Point Sir Isaac at the top of Coffin Bay Peninsula. Cruise the waterways around the rugged islands off Coffin Bay and see pods of dolphins, sea lions, fur seals and native birds. Coffin Bay is a stronghold for the newly discovered Burrunan dolphin, a species only found in a few places around the world. Sample the extensive oyster menu at the 1802 Oyster Bar + Bistro and learn about the history of the industry. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS The countryside around Coffin Bay provides interesting drives and attractions, including Farm Beach and Mount Dutton Bay, with its fascinating old woolshed and restored jetty. Enjoy a family day out at Glen Forest Tourist Park and Vineyard. This 400 acre farm will keep the kids busy with baby animals to feed and cuddle, minigolf and Segways. Lincoln Estate Vineyard is also on the property and you can sample a variety of wines. Mikkira Station is also worth a visit and a great place for bush camping. You might even see a koala or two.
